The Saint Louis University Presidential Scholars
An Executive Board plans and oversees the organization's events and activities for each year. The board consists of Presidential Scholars elected by other members of the group, and includes a President, Vice President, Service Chair, Interview Weekend Chair, Social Chair, ILEX Coordinator and Webmaster. The entire organization meets at least once a month, with committees meeting more often. The group performs at least three community service projects each semester, and serves at various University functions throughout the year. The group seeks out academic guest speakers to present applicable societal issues to the Scholars each semester. The entire organization is also quite involved in the Interview Weekend, providing a special weekend visit program for the 100 Presidential Scholar Interviewees in late February. In addition, the Scholars plan several social events to become more acquainted with and serve as resources for each other. The Presidential Scholars are involved in the entire spectrum of campus activities, from athletics to Greek organizations to Student Government positions.
In addition, as the group grows from 40 scholars to 120 scholars as provided by the SLU2000 Initiative, the group has instituted a scholar mentoring program which seeks to help the freshman scholars become aquianted with the group and the SLU community. The five stated goals of the program include:
- Retain the feel of a small, more personal community in light of the large expansion of the scholars in the next three years.
- Provide freshman scholars the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with each other as well as with sophomore, junior, and senior scholars.
- Instill in all scholars the desire to participate and engage in academic, social, and service-oriented activities both within the Presidential Scholar community and within the entire SLU student community.
- Provide a more accessible means for freshman scholars to voice questions, concerns, and ideas within the group.
- Improve the overall experience for each freshman scholar by providing a more personal atmosphere in which to develop relationships

As a diverse, talented group deemed worthy of receiving such a generous and substantial scholarship, the Presidential Scholars continually strive to elevate the standards of Saint Louis University in the areas of service, academics, and leadership. They embody Jesuit ideals, which challenge them to improve upon their weaknesses and to harness their strengths for the benefit of the University and society. They attempt to establish and maintain a strong personal and group identity, making a significant impact in and around the Saint Louis University community.
As a highly motivated group, the Presidential Scholars actively seek out opportunities to serve humanity, both on campus and in the community, proudly taking the name of the university with them. To that end, they draw on their talents and gifts, providing such service creatively and enthusiastically. In addition, the group is readily available when the university calls on them. Presidential Scholars set an academic example, striving for excellence in the classroom and searching for ways to supplement their education, becoming aware of societal issues and rising to such challenges. They serve as resources for each other, and in this way the group helps its members, as responsible individuals, to reach their full potential. In turn, the Presidential Scholars are encouraged to embrace the array of campus activities and organizations, and to emerge as leaders in those areas. The group sets an example for involvement and leadership in the Saint Louis University experience.
